Terroir of cheese...
Nestled in a valley so pleasant that it has been named "the coast garden", Pont-l'Evêque is a picturesque Norman village traversed by tributaries of the Touques river. Pont-l'Evêque is to be discovered strolling on foot through its old streets and pretty bridges...
Ancient tanners' houses, 16th century half-timbered houses (don't miss The Golden Eagle Inn) are really worth the glance. Some buildings are worth a longer visit : Hotel Montpensier (current library) with its checkerboard pattern of pink bricks and stones, Hotel of Brilly (currentTown Hall) and former Dominican convent which is one of the most beautiful half-timbered building in the whole town with its gallery and carved pillars.
As to Saint-Michel church, it's a magnificent building of flamboyant gothic style with modern stained-glass windows made by a master glass maker.
Do not leave Pont-L'Evêque without having tasted its most famous cheese AOC Pont-l'évêque renowned since the 13th century. Don't forget to visit the castle of Betteville a few miles away. It houses a very interesting museum of La Belle Epoque de l'Automobile.> Learn more :
